Thermal Envelope Blower Door Testing Tips

  • P-Traps – Fill all plumbing P-traps (sinks, floor drains, tubs/showers) with water to block airflow from the sewer system.
  • All interior doors to be left open
  • All exhaust fans turned off (motion activated fans need to be disabled/breaker turned off).
  • Ensure all windows and exterior doors are fully closed, latched, and locked during testing.
  • Thresholds and Weather Stripping installed on exterior doors.
  • Vented Attics – Please ensure access hatches are insulated and have weatherstripping gaskets.
  • HVAC Systems turned off

Sealing minimizes Leakages

Exhaust fan not sealed to drywall.
Plumbing penetrations not sealed.
Baseboards not sealed to floor.
Exterior doors showing thresholds, and weather stripping.
