Required Pretesting Preparations

Exterior – Roof & HVAC Penetrations

  • Seal all plumbing vent penetrations
  • Fan Removal – If possible, remove curb mounted exhaust fan and seal with plastic/visqueen to be airtight.
  • RTUs & Makeup Air Units – Turned off at the disconnect on roof to ensure economizers are closed.
  • Barometric Relief/Dampers – Ensure all barometric relief dampers are secured closed or sealed.
  • Condensate Drains – Ensure p-traps on condensate drains are filled with water or temporarily sealed.

Interior – Plumbing, Exhaust Fans, Windows, and Doors

  • P-Traps – Fill all plumbing P-traps (sinks, floor drains) with water to block airflow from the sewer system.
  • All interior doors to be left open
  • All exhaust fans turned off (motion activated fans need to be disabled/breaker turned off).
  • Ensure all windows and exterior doors are fully closed, latched, and locked during testing.
  • At pre-determined testing doors, please remove closing mechanisms that sit inside the frame.
  • Threshold & Weather stripping Installed on exterior doors.
  • Combustions gas appliances turned to the “OFF” position
  • Ensure the slab/subfloor is caulked to the sill/base plate.

Exterior Preparations

Roof top exhaust fan sealed in plastic.
Roof top HVAC unit, sealed with plastic.

Interior Preparations

Floor drain filled with water.

Exterior doors showing thresholds and weather stripping.
Door closing mechanism.
